Should gideon be able to hand out bibles to public school 5th graders?

The establishment and free exercise clauses included in the 1st Amendment state that matters of church and state shall remain seperate so as to ensure that no religious prejudices, either deliberate or accidental, become prevalent in state affairs. While public schools are still government run and funded, they are not the place to propogate religious belief of any denomination. I recognize that some people think that in order to stay fair schools should teach all religions and let the children decide.

There are thousands of religions on this planet if you include all their sects and denominations and we are having enough trouble making sure high school graduates are literate and can do basic mathematics. Attempting to present so much material which is not directly related to their survival in society is simply not feasible.

No, no religious material of any kind should be handed out in a public school or setting. However, at the appropriate age, and 5th grade may be appropriate, I think classes in comparative religion ought to be taught with increasing complexity, depth, and insight provided as age progresses.

It should be against the law to do anything of any kind to promote any kind of religion in schools.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
