Should I get a gas or electric washer/dryer? I have hook-ups for both?

I have hook-ups for both. What's your experience with gas vs. electric? We'll be buying a new front-loading washer and dryer tomorrow, and we still haven't decided gas vs. electric.

Gas is cheaper to run The two of them perform identically, for the most part. But gas dryers are cheaper to operate, so you will save money over time, even though they cost a bit more up front. (All washers are electric, and if you get a washer/dryer combo, the washer part will be the same regardless of whether the dryer is gas or electric.) Electric washers and dryers use most of the electricity they draw to make heat (some is used to power the motors.

) Electricity is the most expensive way to heat things (which is why nobody uses electric heat for their house if they can help it. ) Natural gas (in 2006) is about half as expensive to get the same amount of heat. But a lot depends on where you live.

So to be specific, it costs 30 to 40 cents per load to use an electric dryer, versus 15 to 20 cents for a gas dryer. That might save you $50 a year, and a typical dryer lasts about 18 years. This link has a spreadsheet with a calculator to help you compute your savings, but I haven't examined it carefully.

Dryers are the second biggest energy hog in your house, behind your refrigerator. By far the cheapest, most energy efficient way to dry your clothes is to use a clothesline. Sources: consumerenergycenter.org/home/appliances..., .

I prefer gas I have an electric right now, but I had a gas dryer for a couple of years when I lived in D.C. It dried clothes more quickly than any electric I've ever had and the cost of running it was lower. I'm not 100% sure that the cost issue is still the same because fuel prices may have had an impact by now, but generally natural gas has been cheaper than electricity. So if you end up saving money and getting a dryer that does a better job, I think it's a no-brainer.My experience with that gas dryer was so positive that I would have a gas dryer still if it was an option where I live.

I hope this helps! Sources: My Opinion .

Gas Gas is generally cheaper to use than electricity, so I would say to go with gas. In addition, gas dryers will usually dry your clothes faster as there is less time involved in coming to the correct heat (like in preheating your oven). How fun to get new appliances!

Dep;ends I say depends I like gas better, but if the gas in area is high then you more then likelypay about the same amount as you would if got an electric one. They both (the dryers) cost right at the same price if you get an gas or electric one. I know gas in my area is expensive right now.

I would get electric! First of all w/gas, you will be able to smell the gas. Secondly, where you live may not have a gasline ran to the laundry room, therefore, causing added expenses.

I think either works just fine, and gas may save a little money, but I don't think a few dollars savings would make me get a gas one. Good luck! Sources: Have tried both!.
