Can't use either of these phones without an internet/data plan. Unless you sometimes buy the phone outright at full markup. If your going to go with a smart phone iwtha data plan you might as well shell out for the supersmart phones droid incredible, nexus,... I wouldn't touch a Palm Pre wit a 10 foot pool not that I don't think its cool but the company just got bought by HP.
Who knows if the Palm brand will remain. But shacking the data plan is going to be your problem.

I have owned a Palm Pre for about a year now and like it very much. It takes great pictures and video as well. But in order to download apps for it you will need the internet via a 3g network as I do on Sprint,or use the built in WiFi to access the internet..Get this phone w/the data plan and get a form fit Palm case to protect it as it is fragile.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
