First, lets calm down, take a deep breath and take a step back! Putting him down is a bit extreme. As far as adopting out or a rescue, if you cared at all about this dog, you would think he deserves another shot life!
It is no sweat off your back if someone else’s wants to give it a go! So why not? Besides if it is a rescue they are trained to have patience and deal with an issue and if they can't, they find someone that can!
(smile) Ok, you can try this but you will have to make a consciousness effort to be there. Take and empty aluminum soda can and put 4 or 5 pennies in it and tape the opening closed. Next, hide out of sight, once he starts to lift his leg to urinate, shake the can fast and hard several times.
It is a very loud and horrible sound and very sensitive to the dogs ears. After a couple of times, he will stop. Now since your dog is older and has been doing it longer it may take a little longer.
This could be really frustrating..... But you love your dog and please give him another chance. I don't think you would be able to find a vet or even shelter that will even consider putting a dog down for this problem. So please consider exploring methods ot teaching him not to mark.
I am not a dog trainer and not sure if I am right or wrong. I can only tell you what worked for me. When you take your dog out or walk him, do not come in until he pees.
It might take a while but eventually he will pee somewhere outside. You might also note his "favorite" place outside to pee. When he pees outside, praise him a lot.
Then bring him home soon. Also, monitor his water intake. Chihuahuas have tiny bladder.
If he is drinking too much water, check with your vet about possible physical problems like diabetes or thyroid problems (which causes dogs to drink a lot of water and pee constantly). Ask your vet how about how much water he should be drinking. Since you are getting new furniture, get rid of what you don't need and clean the entire house to get rid of pee smell/stain.
This is including any objects that may have pee stain. Choose a small portion of a room that is the closest to backyard patio door (or anyplace or door leading to outside) and place a few sheets of wee wee pad. This is the dog's designated pee spot.
Try placing something that has his urine smell on in. I have a small dog who peed very often and it is the only solution that worked for me. Good luck and I hope something helps.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
