I think that might have some relevance to the nature of one's crime. In many cases, these criminals have acted like "animals" in their crimes and thus they are locked up like animals and many would say rightly so. How comfortable do we want to make prison life?
Afterall, is the threat of going to prison not suppose to deter people from committing crimes? There is a balance that must be found in addressing those issues. We could reach a point where prison is more comfortable than the reality of daily life.WB.
I have to agree with Wayne Brown as well, and we also need to consider the time in which conjugal visits were first allowed. The mindset at the time is that a woman's job was to stay home, take care of the house and make babies. Divorce was taboo, and obviously so was getting pregnant by other means.
When a man went to prison, it was believed that his wife shouldn't be punished by being deprived of children that would take care of her in her old age. The world has changed a lot since then, at least in most countries.
No- I do not believe these visits should be allowed. Why should criminals have intimate time with another? Intimacy is based off love and trust.
The crime they commited took away trust from their victim. Therefore, they should have it denied to them. I feel our prisoners get to much as it is.It has begun to be less of a punishment and more like a dorm of crimminals.
Perhaps not, for those without partners -of their own. Add the question how safe would it be?
I think it a case of commit the crime do the time! Get rid of TVs and time off for not committing more crime -or being caught ..Is the step in the right direction. Times should be hard -to a point- for offenders.
I'm afraid that I must disagree with everyone here. While I do support prison as both punitave and rehabilitative, we must remember that unless someone is serving a life sentence, than they WILL be released back into the public someday. If we treat all of our prisoners like animals, than how can we expect to release anything but an animal?
Also, while divorce is certainly more of an option these days, it is unfair to punish the spouses of the incarcerated. Some may still be opposed to a divorce. It depends somewhat on the nature of the crime.
In the end, prisoners are human beings. They may not be model citizens, but while there is a role for discipline in the penal system (after all, it's called a penal system for a reason) we must also lead by example and teach criminals that they shouldn't have to resort to crime to get what they want. If we strip them of their humanity while they are in jail, than it won't be a human that gets released, just an even more hardened criminal.
Prison should not have all the comforts that they have, if every one have their partners visit that would make it just like home.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
