Should Mahalo give points to users who report spammers (self advertising) on this site to increase user interaction and decrease spammers?

We don't offer points, but it does do a great service to the community when you report spammers, we check our reports everyday and look into each one carefully. Again, we don't offer points but I have been known to tip users who efficiently use the report button.

I think Mahalo should give out points. Like one or two, if the reported spammer WAS actually spamming. If not, then the reporter doesn't get any points.

I don't think Mahalo has added this feature because not many members here use spam. And most members will reported anyway, with or without points. Some spammers really piss me off sometimes.

Those are the ones who use Mahalo to make comments about stuff no one knows about. And, those that type a bunch of random letters. They take the time to go through the 'ask a question' process just to do write something like that?

I DON'T THINK SO! NOT IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD!

Mahalo is currently not giving points to users who report spammers. They will have a check on the spammers. If they are good reporters it is okay BUT if they are reporting wrongly .

They may get any troubles later.

The trouble with offering points is that it often leads to more spamming and more work. It's counter-intuitive, but there will be people who report everything, just to earn more points. It is even possible that users will post spam, so that they (under another account) or other users can report them and earn points.

Since keeping the community clean is an important aspect, especially as the site grows, it would be nice if this was part of the economy. Which it is, informally, as Jeffhoard has noted. At some point this could be standardized, such that a small, fixed number of points could be earned per time period, if the user has shown appropriate use of the function.

For example, a typical user likely comes across at least one spam message a week. If they report 3 in a month, they get 2 points. This fosters the behavior, without granting incentive for abuse.

Alternatively, a solution is to offer a separate 'reputation' statistic, which covers spam reporting, as well as other behaviors. This would only make the system more confusing at this time, since the belts act in this way, but is a possibility for the future.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
