Should thank you notes be written for Christmas gifts?

Some people, my dad included, are very aware of who sends a thank you note. I had an aunt who was very sweet, but stopped giving money at Christmas to the nieces and nephews who did not send a note. My mom always made us sit and write them.

Believe me, I mean to do it this year, but probably never will.

Sorry, but I am a firm believer in thank you notes. Even a phone call thank you or email thank you is better than nothing. How would you feel if you gave someone a gift and it was not even acknowledged?

Well, it depends. If the gift was cash, or a present sent from far away, and the giver was not there when it was opened, then yes, most certainly there should be a thank you note sent or a phone call made. If the giver was there, then thanks should have been given at the time of opening the gift.

But if the gift was super special, than another thank you would be really nice. I might be old fashioned, but thank yous are always nice to hear - and cost so little to give.

The thank you may feel more special if you write the note and send it. I don't care if they send me a note or if they give away the present. My mom wants notes...it is a selfesteem/ego thing.

Just do what the person wants...their love language.

Maybe it's age-related. Mostly I just want to know my gift was received. Just a phone call or acknowledgment that my gift did make it to the intended person.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
