Should they close all the roads when the President is on them?

The reason I am asking this question, is because yesterday Joe Biden had a Funeral for his mother who just died. I live about a half a mile from the church that the funeral was at. This is a small suburban area here in Delaware, just out side of Wilmington.

There are a lot of different developments together here with lots of side streets. The secret service blocked all these streets with there cars and flares while the President attended the Funeral. One lady on this street was unable to go to work yesterday since the secret service would not let her out of the driveway.

She said she called her employer and he said that was her problem, so she ended up loosing a days pay. Do you think that is right to do? There was also many other people like Congress men, Bill Clinton that also was here but they didn't get the same treatment.

Also both the President and Vice President were here in the same place. Nancy Pelosi was not allowed to attend, since she is next in line for President. Asked by Delvet 24 months ago Similar questions: close roads President Politics & Law > Politics.

2 According to the Secret Service, President Obama receives 30 death threats a day. And, they are severely understaffed. I don't think its fair to this woman that she was made to lose a day's pay.In a fair world, she would be reimbursed by the Secret Service.

Its an impossible situation. I guess they do what they feel they must in light of not only the volatile atmosphere in which we live, but the high degree of threat directed towards Obama. There are just too many imbalanced individuals out there to take chances.

Delvet replied to post #2: 3 I agree with you completely, but it sure didn't look like there was any shortage of secret service men yesterday, they were every were since there were so many side streets from here to the church. Yes there were also State and County police all over also. This had to be a large cost to Delaware, the county and the federal government.

4 I'm sorry your neighbor couldn't get to work yesterday. That being said, I don't think it's unreasonable to close off some streets when the president (any president) is in the vicinity. As it is, Vice-President Biden only had one mother, and his father is deceased.

So, I wouldn't worry about anymore streets being closed for the funeral of a Vice-President's mother, with a seated President in attendance. With the exception of your neighbor, streets being closed for the duration of a presidential 'visit,' is a small price to pay, in comparison to the loss, and honoring of a parent. I also agree with Skylight's comment re: death threats.

In fact, your last sentence points out the fact of death threats, or even a death of a President."Nancy Pelosi was not allowed to attend, since she is next in line for President. " .

Replied to post #3: 5 You surely can't begrudge a funeral for a parent, even if the parent was mother to the Vice-President of the United States. Just because Joe Biden is the Vice-President, he surely doesn't stop being a son. I'm sure there are contingency plans for who should pay towards the expense of a funeral, including security.

Although, the cost of security for a President and Vice-President should come from the federal government. We had the funeral of Senator Ted Kennedy, this past August in Boston, and President Obama and every 'living' president, with the exception of former President George HW Bush, were in attendance. A good deal of the expenses were paid for by the Kennedy family.

Although, security for present and past president's was paid by the federal government, with some exceptions.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
