So, I was awarded financial aid and the disbursement date says 8/27. What does this mean exactly? I've never had financial aid for school before.

It means that money left somebody's hands on August 27. It may have been sent directly to the school. Check with the bursar's office for the status of your account.

It was apparently sent directly to the school. So, now I've got to figure out how to get my dad's money back. I didn't know that I was awarded Financial Aid...Last I had heard was that I was denied.

The accounting department (i.e. The Bursar's Office) should be able to help you. They know how much they charged, and you should be able to get a refund if you paid them more than that amount.
