You might want to try riding a bike to the nearest train station and them catch the train to the city and back out again. That might well be faster, and you can either take the bike on the train with you, or park it in a 'parkiteer' cage at your train station.
If you have a folding bike, you could also take it on trams and buses. What you want to do is minimise the amount of different modes of transport you need to catch as trains, trams and buses rarely meet up at the same time and a lot of time is wasted waiting for the next mode of transport to arrive.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
