Tech Problem: I lost pics and can't find them on HD. It's complicated, ask me to clarify. Downloaded Lg.Pics.

Into MY PICS, some dnldd, some not. My Pics may have been full. I ckd HD for new file made on 12/31 3:48Am and got a DB file which Wiki saysis a multi-edit config. My gut says that's the missing pics, but computer says that'ssystemn files.

I went thru MY DOCS>MY PICS and deleted all old pics to give moreroom. I'm running old OS Me with 7-Zip file, could it have been transferred intothere? How do we find missing files on our HD?

Just use the search feature. Goto the Explorer search, put into the files box "*. Jpg,*.

Bmp,*. Png,*. Gif,*.

Tiff,*.7z,*. Zip" and make sure in the Location box you have your C: drive chosen OR "All Hard Drives" if you have more the one. Do you know the extensions of the picture formats?

Did most come from a certain type of camera/software? Add that extension to the above list, just put "*. " in front of it and make sure they are all separated by commas..

System files are updated all the time by your OS You apparently downloaded some, but not all of the files. First of all, did you do a move (copy and delete) such that the copied pics were deleted from your camera's memory card? If they weren't deleted, then no worries, just redo the download.

If they were deleted, DON'T TAKE ANY MORE PICTURES ON THAT MEMORY CARD UNTIL YOU RECOVER YOUR FILES. An undelete utility should be able to do that easily -- there are several out there, some specifically designed for memory cards. If you still want to search your HD, then use the filename pattern used by your camera to look for one of the pictures e.g. If the first pic remaining on your memory card is PIC000079.

Jpg, search for PIC000078. The DB file is usually associated with a database, not something that it sounds like you're using for your photos. Now just what are you doing trusting your precious (assumption on my part) photos to a system like that?

ME is the buggiest and most unreliable OS Microsoft ever produced. Support for it was dropped long ago. You need to upgrade now.

Secondly, a system with as little disk space as you seem to have is very unreliable. It can crash just due to not having space for its normal internal operations -- I once received a panic call from my daughter at college because she couldn't boot. I founds out iot was because her disk was too full.

For crying, external drives are very cheap and a compression utility like 7Zip is not buying you anything because jpegs are already heavily compressed. You've been warned -- if you lose any of your valuable photos, you have only yourself to blame..

Shortest way to find your files is if you know their names or partial names. In the Search/Find box for your hard drive, type in whatever you can remember of the name. Say you know its a JPG file and the name stared with "ca" --- then type in:*ca*.

* or *ca*. Jpg or *ca*. Jpeg and do a search on your main hard drive (probably C:\)It will find it for you if it is stored anywhere on the computer...That's about as non-technical as I can get.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
