Transferring computer files I have a desktop comp and a laptop. Can I transfer files thru the USB conx? And will I need special software to do it?
I'm not transferring the whole drive , just want to swap files. BTW, I have a flash drive, just wondered if I could do it this way also. Asked by thepoohbear 59 months ago Similar questions: Transferring computer files Computers > Hardware > Desktops & Laptops.
Follow these links Check this compnetworking.about.com/od/homenetworki... hardwaresecrets.com/article/248 You don’t need a special software but you need a special hardware. Use the Flash Drive for simplicity or have wireless network, if possible, for comfort and ease. Sources: experience .
You can, but you need a A/A USB networking cable (bridged cable that has male connectors on each end). Using a plain A/A USB cable will fry your ports or your system. These USB networking cables usually come with the software needed to transfer files on a disk.
Here's one:Meritline USB 2.0 NetLink Cable, USB to USB Network Cable For PC, Male to Male Connectors, FREE STANDARD SHIPPING$15.99http://www.meritline.com/usb-2-network-cable-usb-to-usb.htmlOn a Mac, I believe you don't need any software, the other computer will show up as a drive on your desktop, just as if you were using Firewire. Also, USB can be slow - it might be faster to use the flash drive, but you'll see if it is or not for you. Sources: .
Yes with a USB A/B cable Make sure you have an A/B datalink cable, or you can fry your USB port. Here is where you can get one: newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?DEPA=... .
You could but... For the price you would end up spending on the software for the transfer, you could just set up a network. It would end up costing around the same thing, but you will get much more use out of it. Also, if you decide to go the wireless route, then you will not only get wireless internet, but you can transfer files whenever you want and may even want to set up a network drive.
Have fun.
Sure can If you have two machines running USB compliant versions of Windows (Win 95 OSR2 or later), you can use USB. With no network card (Use a Cat 5 Crossover cable) to install, this is a simple way to hook up two computers in the same room or quickly connect a laptop to a desktop. From what that says it sounds like connecting via USB direct connect shouldnt be a problem, so what you should have to do is connect the desktop and laptop via the USB cable, then go into the Network Wizard and setup the connection as Direct Connect.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
