Trying to find a mystery book (dont remember the title and author's name)?

Trying to find a mystery book (dont remember the title and author's name) the title might be 'there he keeps them safe', 'there where he kept them safe' somewhere around that. I tried searching by using these title but failed. So, it might not be correct.

I only remembered that the book revolved around two best friends, both of them are women and grew up at the same place. One of them become a cop/detective, another one had a history of child-abuse. In their childhood, there was a murder in the neighborhood, involving two boys.

The residents thought that the boys dead but at the end of the story one of the boy is not dead and actually the husband of the abused woman . I only remembered these details. I read it about 13 years ago, when I was 8 yrs old.It was my first mystery book.

Really need help in finding it...by the way, the female detective came from a rich/ well family. And the book cover (two cover actually) the first had a title then a circle of hole where the reader can see through a portrait on the second cover. I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
