Trying to get paperwork from doctor for Social Security and running into HIPPA law?

All he has to do is to sign a release. Otherwise, the doc is just being obstructionist. Actually, most disability attorneys have their clients sign releases.

Then the disability attorney requests the info directly from the doc. Why your brother has to try to collect this info on his own is a mystery to me. Ppa protects a patient's privacy.

Ppa is not meant to keep a person from their own medical records. I wonder what the doctor is hiding. I think a person under hippa has the right to his own medical records and even to add a note if he disagrees with the doc.

If they are his records of his medical treatment, by law he has the right to view and copy his records. They may charge him for copies made if they do it but he has a legal right to inspect and read any of his personal medical records. They belong to him when he paid the practioner.

Ppa is only for other peoples info. He will have to go up and show ID but they cannot by law refuse him his records. But no they will not release records from a phone call.

He will have to go personally to the institution he requesting from.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
