Mitsubishi WS65819 and we have a cable box hooked to it that delivers the HD picture. Since it works for that I want to hook the blu ray into the cable box's hdmi slot but want to make sure I can. Thanks.

We definitely get HD programing and that is why we figured we could hook it into the cable box too. Guess I should ask Mitsubishi what the best route is but they will probably say buy something to add to TV and we were trying to avoid that. Thanks for your help.

Yes, they would know. The true test of HD is the clear, almost startling clarity of the picture. If you have that, you have HD; however my meager experience is that the picture is very complicated and must be transmitted digitally.

We definitely have HD because when you switch to channel 2, the picture is terrible, but hd channel 161 comes in crystal clear. The back of the TV has high definition jacks for accessing the HD, and our monster cables are connected from those to the cable box. The manual with the blu ray says I can plug it into a receiver which is connected to an hd tv...so I guess I will find out when I plug the unit in...I will let you know once we get the hdmi cable tomorrow!
