I would probably use struct as the type, and then throw an exception if it isn't an Enum type. I don't see how your (Type, string) option is any safer than using object or struct.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
