Try this, you can use apache's location directive to force the directory-root ServerName example. Com ServerAlias example.com DocumentRoot /var/www/dir1 ServerName *.example. Com DocumentRoot /var/www/dir2 Remember the first VirtualHost takes precedence.
Try doing it like... NameVirtualHost *:80 DocumentRoot = /var/www/dir1 ServerName d1.example. Com DocumentRoot = /var/www/example ServerName example. Com DocumentRoot = /var/www/someotherdir ServerName other.example.Com ServerAlias *.example.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
