These two readers have different DRM systems so books from one will not work on the other. If you want to browse the books available for the Kindle before (or after) you get a Kindle, you can go to amazon. Com's kindle bookstore. There are significantly more books available for the Kindle than there are for the Sony.

The Sony comes with a desktop application that you install on a Windows PC. From there, it does a good job of connecting to its online selection of books at the ebookstore.sony.com. These are the only books you can buy to read directly for the eReader, though you can also transfer PDFs, text files, and BBeB files to the reader.

Get neither. Get the Kobo. The problem with the Kindle and the Nook and the Sonys is that they ARE proprietary.

The Kobo is not. If you get the Kindle, you HAVE to go to Amazon. If you get the Nook, you HAVE to go to Barnes and Noble.

If you get the Sony, you HAVE to go to Sony (and now google books). If you get the Kobo, the only place you can NOT get your books is iBooks. I hate proprietary systems so I highly recommend the Kobo.

Sony - Borders, sony bookstore, non-drm epubs and overdrive (most libraries use overdrive for content) Also the new google books :-) non sony- amazon and barnes and noble. Currently almost every reader on the market locks you out of someones books with the exception of the i-pad - or a computer and almost all have an app for that.
