Yes. Since this camera comes without a built-in lens (body only) you should get the lens too - you have to have some kind of lens to be able to use it. So, unless you have Nikon lenses laying around - you should buy it.

Bundled will probably be cheaper than buying just the body and then shopping around for the lens later. Also, the lens is quite good for a kit lens. Quick, quiet and smooth.

Nikon The D80 with the 18-135mm kit lens is a good choice. The 18-135 is certainly better than the other two kit lenses that are available. It’s a kit lens though, and as such, it’s not up to the quality of the more advanced glass.

Many of the reviews that I’ve read complain about aberration and it’s not a VR lens which is important if you do your shooting offhand instead of from a tripod. The D80/18-135 kit is selling for a bit over a thousand dollars these days. Given a choice I’d spend a little more and go for the D80 body and the 18-200mm VRII lens.It’ll run you about 400 bucks more but the 18-200 is a much better lens and even more versatile.

Or go a little cheaper with the D40X and the 18-200mm VRII. That’d save abut 200 bucks but with the loss of the D80’s more advanced features.As always it’s a matter of money, but I learned the hard way to buy better stuff up front. Cheap is nice but eventually you’ll want to upgrade and then you’ll end up with a bunch of cheap lenses sitting on the shelf that you never use.

Prices on these vary a LOT. I buy most of my stuff at 42nd St Photo or Abe's of Maine. They usually have the best prices and I've never had a problem with them..

Not a bad combo Not a bad combo. I personally would go with a Canon 30D or 40D or even the rebel xti. As the noise/grain at higher ISO is much lower and better than with the d80.

Make sure to get an extra battery and at least 2 mem cards. Also I would suggest to look into local Photography groups or Meetups (like Meetup. Com) as you can get lots of great ideas from shooting with others.

See what camera fits into your hand best and you can use easy. I use battery grips on mine so I have longer battery life, as well as better balance. Hope this helps.

Why Not You have to start some where and the kit lens is not a bad lens. But if it was me I would not get the 19-135 lens. I bought the D80.

And I got it from ritzcamera.com If you go there you can get the D80 kit with two basic lens's for $1169.99 and a free bag. And the bag is a pretty nice Nikon bag which will hold everything. The two lenses you get are the 18-55mm and the 55-200mm.

Both have Nikor glass. They don't have IS, (image stabilization). I have taken dozens of picturs with the kit lenses and they have come out great, no problems.

If you have the money, later, and you like an all around lens, Nikon makes an all around type of lens. It is the Nikon 18-200mm with IS. However it runs and average of $700.00 just for the lens.
