Weeds, weeds and more weeds in the garden - especially "autumn clematis" I grow better weeds than anyone I know. I could have a "weed festival". I even grow weeds in my containers.
The main problem recently is that I have a lot of what I think is "autumn clematis" which grows wild here in my N.C. yard. It grows so fast you can almost SEE it getting bigger. It is a nice plant if you have an area you want to let go wild, like you might with honeysuckle.
But it is all through my flower beds. Round Up does NOT kill it! It also has deep roots so that pulling it up doesn't work, it has to be dug up.
Any advice? It seems like there are more and more plants that Round Up doesn't kill. I can't use heavy duty herbicides as I have desirable plants in these areas.
I have put down a healthy layer of pine straw but this clematis just happily pops up through it. Any advice? Asked by anniemdaffodils 31 months ago Similar questions: Weeds weeds garden autumn clematis Home > Patio, Lawn & Garden.

First off, any plant can be killed with adequate time and attention to detail. My mother-in-law got some cactus/agave in her backyard that I've been removing for the past ten years by doing the easy part: removing any leaves that appear. Over time, the plant stops having anything supporting it and it dies.
The thing is almost entirely dead, now. The ones next door I did the hard way: I dug them up. Your Clematis is likely the Japanese import, and there is this said about it: "Hardiness: USDA Zones 5 - 10.
Keep the roots shaded and cool, and the foliage in the sun. Cover the root zone with a flat rock or a shallow-rooted ground cover. " If growing it means keeping the roots shaded, rip the branches and leaves out and expose the roots to the sun.
Let them warm. Over time, as it keeps trying to grow shade for the roots, remove that shade until the roots die. Sources: floridata.com/ref/C/clem_ter.cfm .
1 have you tried this: eartheasy.com/article_corn_gluten.htmit's a corn based gluten meal that is supposed to suppress weeds. I grow great weeds too andmy garden is way too big to weed by hand, by the time I do one row the last row is full. Last year I found that in the hardware store and bought some, but never used it.
Also, I have the same problem with morning glories. They are everywhere. They spring up everywhere and are impossible to remove.
They completely covered my back porch supports when I let them go last year.

2 P.S. I think roudup has passed it's prime. It doens't work in drought conditions, It doesn't kill 1/2 the stuff anyway.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
