Absolutely! Way less plastic surgery and anorexia! I love the fact that the women back then were WOMEN...with real curves and flaws...and yet somehow they were gorgeous and super classy.
That is very difficult to answer since "Beauty" is in the eyes of the beholder, and it depends on whether you are observing physical features or the inner beauty that exudes from within.
Depends on your point of view and your age. I,being of that era ,like those 40'sand 50's gals and guys best. Nostalgia I guess, but there's nothing alive like Rock Hudson,Susan Hayward,Joan Crawford,Gary Cooper and their ilk.
They did not jump into bed on the first date either ,but you got the message anyway. They showed not so much skin, but we liked it. Besides there was always a good story rather than fluff.
Good question. I guess it's all about how you define beauty and glamor. I can think of many women form the past and today that are glamorous, but it may not fit your definition.
Feenix this is a great question. One thing that can be said with certainty is the top actresses of the 40s had class and glamor. The pic of Susan Hayward is a perfect example.
That lady had both in spades. Can we really say that about a lot of today's actresses?
Yes, they were more glamorous in every way. Their outer beauty was more 'natural', and most retained the inner beauty taught them during their childhoods. My mother met, and got to know many celebrities during the 40's and 50's, when she worked at the Brown Derby in Hollywood.
She was very inspired by their class, public behavior, and treatment of others. She shared many stories with me about her encounters with them. I remember feeling astounded when she told me about several Brown Derby celebrity 'regulars', who never failed to say 'grace' before their dining pleasures.
Yes they were. They had no modern day beauty aids in the form of surgeries, beauty products, makeup techniques, etc and yet even today we find them appear so beautiful and classy.
I agree! Considering that back then was no photo retouching or botox or other beauty enhancers, I say these women were just naturally gorgeous. And yes they had real feminine figures with curves not like some skinny models and actresses today who have those stick type boyish figures with no hips or breasts whatsoever.
Most importantly they conducted themselves with class and never thought because they were famous that they were above the law like today's celebrities.
Yes, I think the 1940s actresses were more beautiful because they concentrated on making them that way for film, and black and white film more easily portrays beauty. In many of today's movies, it isn't necessarily about beauty. Actresses today will take parts that aren't meant to be glamorous or beautiful.
I should think so! As a rule, they had more class, elegance, and femininity that can't compare with the modern stars who try to act like men on the big screen. Not to mention, style was so much better, so they had that going for them.
Perhaps it's just me but they were no worse of better looking. More meat on the bones alright which is in their favour alright. Everyone looks better in black and white?
Yes, they had true, natural beauty and they knew how to show off their natural assets. Today a lot of people hide their natural beauty in order to look like what everyone else tells them they should look like. A great way to learn to show off your body the proper way is to watch a few episodes of "What Not To Wear".
Of course, we all know the saying, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder," but my opinion is: yes, absolutely—without a doubt. Actresses from the 1940s were much, much more glamorous than the actresses of today, not to mention the way they carried themselves—they had much more class as well. Much more respect for themselves, also, I think.
Above all, though, they were real people. Many of them treated the people who worked for them, their fans, etc. The same way they wanted to be treated—with respect. Sure, life was hard then, too, but according to many people, it was a much better world.
Yes they do, they look cleaner, healthier and refreshing.
Ya I am agree with kitty , they all had natural beauty not plastic surgeries...
Yes, those actresses were more glamorous and had more class in my opinion when comparing the everyday look of the actors and actresses of today.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
