Were the Cubs right to call up Starlin Castro?

Personally I find this an interesting move on the part of the Chicago Cubs. They have a veteran shortstop in Ryan Theriot who is hitting over .300 for them and appears to be more than capable in the field. Granted he is a bit older than Starlin Castro, but I find it hard to believe that the move is being made just because of age.My suspicion is that the Chicago Cubs feel they have no chance at winning their division and are getting a look see for next season.

If that is the case, then it is a dis-service to their fans that I suspect deserve more. At first look it does not appear that their team is so bad that they cannot field a decent lineup and remain competitive. If they are looking to the future, then I definitely expect to see more call-ups sooner than later.

Then again, maybe they plan to shop Theriot around. A team like the Detroit Tigers who have a well stocked minor league system loaded with young pitching and could use an upgrade at shortstop may show some interest and return some value to the Cubs. Bottom line is if the kid has the character and maturity to play in the major leagues, then by all means they should go for it if they truly feel it improves their team and chances.

I think it's too early to tell if this was the best move or not. He's getting off to a great start with the Chicago Cubs with 8 hits in 22 at bats, but final judgment should be withheld until the end of the season and actually perhaps several seasons. In 264 minor league games, Castro hit .310 with 51 stolen bases and 48 doubles.

He has played a lot of professional games for someone just 20 years old since he started at age 17, so he could be more mature and ready for the major leagues beyond his age of 20. The Cubs other shortstop Ryan Theriot has been steady with a career .291 average in 547 games but he is 30 years old and perhaps the organization believe Castro is already as good as Theriot and sees much more upside, so let him play and see what he can do. Some players struggle their first year and mature, adjust and become good major league players.

Others are great at first until the pitchers make adjustments after seeing what the player's weakness is offensively. Then if the hitter fails to be able to adjust he is pretty much finished. Everyone will just have to wait and see if this move was the right one.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
