Definitely fantasty is huge with young adults at the moment, vampires, angels, werewolvesd etc. The ladies like a bit of romance and the lads need some action/adventure :).
I agree, fantasy and paranormal romance are huge. The Twilight saga, The Black Dagger Brotherhood and other similar such tales are highly popular.
I agree with fantasy. A fantasy-parable. The hidden message.
The discussion starter for social issues disguised by dragons, warlocks and witches, brave knights of old or future - wait that is sci-fi.
A major trend that I see amongst young adults and teens are the fantasy/romance novels. This is apparent through the recent Twilight Saga hit. There seems to be a huge fascination with vampires these days.
I went to a local Books A Million and Barnes & Noble just to check out these sections, and found that more than half of the shelves in the young adult section are filled with books about vampires.
Paranormal Romance. It seems that all the books out there for young adults are paranormal romance. And dystopia starting to pick up as well.
Like the Hunger Games and the City of Ember. But you should write what you enjoy writing. Just because paranormal is big right now doesn't mean that it will be in two years, or even the next year.
And Twilight started the vampire frenzy, which I believe is now slowly dying out. I think zombies are the upcoming thing now. Anyway, write what you're best at.
People will gravitate towards it no matter what the popular genre is.P.S. I suggest romance. If you're looking for profit, they seem to sell the most.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
