What are formulas for compounds used instead of their common names?

Formulas are used because is a more short and simple system; all peoples understand a formula - a text may be undecipherable, the tranlation may be unsure, the common names have synonyms etc.

It is quicker and more convenient to write the formula of a compound instead of its common name. For example, it is quicker to write "NaOH" instead of "sodium hydroxide".

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
