GM foods or Genetically-modified organisms(GMO, is popularly known as plants or crops in which there genetic make up has been altered or changed to make it more resistant to pests & weeds, as well as other factors that affects plant growth and its nutrients boosted. The technique used for this foods are often termed as genetic engineering. Among the most noted advantages of GMO Foods are pest resistance, herbicide tolerance, disease resistance, cold tolerance, drought tolerance, utilized as edible vaccines and Phytoremediation, trees are genetically altered to fight pollution.
However, there are certain health concerns as far as GMO food is concerned since consuming it might have harmful effects. Furthermore, another risk factor that has been brought up to fore is the increased incidence of occurrence of allergic reactions with regards to consumption of GMO foods, especially on children. Accordingly, "Genetically-modified foods have the potential to solve many of the world's hunger and malnutrition problems, and to help protect and preserve the environment by increasing yield and reducing reliance upon chemical pesticides and herbicides.
Yet there are many challenges ahead for governments, especially in the areas of safety testing, regulation, international policy and food labeling.
GMO stand for genetically-modified organisms that is commonly used to refer to crop plants that are created for human or animal by using advanced molecular biology techniques. The plants were modified in the laboratory to enhance the desired traits like increase resistance to herbicides or improve its nutritional content. These has been traditionally done through breeding but conventional plant breeding methods consumes a lot of time and are not very accurate.
But through genetic engineering, this will help create plants wit the desired trait fast and accurate as well. As an example, plant geneticists can isolate a gene responsible for drought tolerance and insert this gene into a different plant. The genetically-modified plant will then become drought tolerant.
Genes can be transferred from one plant to the another and from non-plant organisms can also be used. GMO food can help solve many of the world's hunger and malnutrition problems and at the same time help protect and preserve the environment because the yield will increase and reducing its reliance on chemical pesticides and herbicides. But there are many challenges ahead for government especially in safety testing, regulation, international policy and food labeling.
There are many people who feel that genetic engineering is the wave of the future and so should not be ignored if it has enormous benefits. But we must proceed with a lot of caution so avoid unintentional harm to human health and environment as a result of over-enthusiasm for this technology.
Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) can be defined as organisms in which the genetic material (DNA) has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally. The technology is often called “modern biotechnology Or “gene technology
, sometimes also “recombinant DNA technology Or “genetic engineering. It allows selected individual genes to be transferred from one organism into another, also between non-related species.
Such methods are used to create GM plants – which are then used to grow GM food crops.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
