What are lab-created or synthetic gems?

As opposed to natural precious and semi-precious gemstones, lab-created gems are made in a lab to possess the same optical, chemical, and mineral properties, as the naturally occurring ones. Lab-created gems look similar to the natural gems, although they will not have the flaws that are inherent in natural gemstones as these flaws are eliminated during the lab creation process.
