What are Native Americans of today like? Are they hospitable or friendly or not welcoming to outsiders?

I want to meet some native Americans and learn about their culture, and way of life. However, I've heard that they're not friendly nor open towards outsiders, especially on the reservations. How true is this?

There isn't just one giant generic ethnic blob of "Native Americans". There are hundreds of different tribes and nations. Many nations have different collective community opinions about non-natives.

Also, within each nation, there are hundreds or thousands of individual people who all have their own opinions. Another point, you'd be surprised to know that a few years back, the President of the Cherokee nation was a redheaded bearded guy who looked more like a Scottsman than an Indian. Many people are part native, and may not look like what you consider a "real" Indian to look like.

If you want to meet a large number of American Indians, Native Americans, Indigenous People, First Nations, or whatever you want to call the folk, I suggest a Powwow. There are big and small ones all over the country. Look up and see if there is one near you in the future.

The Fourth of July is usually an AWESOME time to attend Powwows. Some of the best and biggest ones happen on that day. Here is a link about Powwow etiquette.

And if you see AnnLee around, ask her about Powwows, she goes and participates in them on a fairly regular basis. I can't remember what Nation she belongs to, but she's the real deal. Html?

It's funny that people think all Native Nations are the same. People go to school and learn about "Native Americans," and assume that "they" are one huge "group" with the same beliefs and views. Few seem to extend their knowledge beyond that, if they even had the fortune to learn anything true about them in the first place.

I'm of recent Seminole descent, but did my ancestors in the Everglades of "Florida" believe the same things and have the same notions toward outsiders that, say, the Kwakwaka'wakw on the opposite end of the continent did or do to this day? Maybe you want to meet "some Native Americans," but you should be aware that not all native cultures are the same."What are they like"? This depends on the Nation in question.

The Pow Wows I've been to were at colleges and universities. Google "Pow Wow" along with your local college name and see if any are scheduled in your location. You can watch the movie "500 Nations" free on Google video here:video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6736846... are many Indigenous Native Americans on YouTube that you can chat with:youtube.com/RussellMeansFreedomhttp://ww... com/videoplay?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
