Pick a theme and go shopping at thrift stores. Buy things that fit the theme somehow. Buy a bunch of framed pictures.
Pick them by how well you like the frames. You will be tossing the pictures. Cut all the stuff you bought up and make framed collages out of it.
Paint the frames all the same color. Buy a few big things that you don't cut up, to display in the room also for depth. Sample Themes: Tiki Medieval Lace Psychedelic 1980s Wolves Polka Dots.
Paint, furniture from the Salvation Army, make your own drapes or JC Penny has cheap drapes. A throw rug for the floor.
Thrift shops, flea markets, and such where you can often find really cool and unique pieces for very cheap. A lot of the stuff in my house has came from these types of places. Also, decorative items that are just going to sit on a shelf or hang on a wall can be anything!
Get some interesting old books, frames, bowls, or whatever else to add some character to your space. You can even make your own artwork relatively easily. Also, painting a room provides a dramatic change pretty inexpensively.
You can get as creative as you want with your paint, there are so many faux finishes and textures that you can do with paint to liven up a room!
While it would take a little more work, I'd recommend buying items that match one another. If you get cream colored furniture, finding an area rug that also has a bit of cream in it will set off the room a little more. I'd also recommend spending some money on a really remarkable light fixture like a chandelier or ornate lamp.
If you save money on furniture, rugs and curtains, you should be able to get some really great lighting and still stay on budget. The other suggestion I have is building up your baseboards. Rather than spending lots of money on tons of wood, you can simply add a thin piece of trim a few inches above the baseboard that you already have now.
Yes, there will be a space between the new trim and your old baseboard. However, if you paint the baseboard, trim and gap all one color, it'll look almost exactly like one large piece. I've included a picture below.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
