What are the best competitors to World of Warcraft?

World of Warcraft is massive and is the most widely played MMORPG game out there right now and for the last few years. There are some games that can compete against it. One of the main competing MMORPG is Lord of the Rings which is a free MMORPG and is growing in popularity in the last few months.

I don't find it nearly as fun as World of Warcraft and it is not as widely played but it is competing.
