What are the best neighborhoods for a mature couple in the suburban Kansas City area, and why?

We are a couple in our 50s, looking for a new suburban home in the KC area with good parks, libraries, access to cultural events. It should be a neighborhood where you'd be comfortable walking or biking. Please give me your top two or three suggestions and reasons why you like a particular area.

We'll be in the area for a week in January and want to explore without having a real estate agent attached. Thanks Asked by Sensei2B 60 months ago Similar questions: neighborhoods mature couple suburban Kansas City area Local > United States > Kansas City - MO.

I'd recommend Prairie Village or Brookside on the Kansas Side. I grew up in Kansas City and my parents still live there. I'd recommend taking a serious look at Prairie Village and Brookside.

Prairie Village is an older suburb, with large oaks, parks, churches, and a nice little shopping center (called, conveniently, "the Prairie Village Shopping Center"). The houses are settled, and it's not that far a drive from downtown or from the Plaza, but still a fairly quiet area with not-too-small lots and a nice sense of community. Brookside is on the other side of Johnson Drive, closer to Westport and the Plaza, a bit more "walkable" to coffee shops and has a wonderful little street of antique shops and so on.

If you're willing to go even more urban and you want to get away from having to drive around a lot (Kansas City is very car-centric), you might also want to look at the area around 39th and State Line. This is along the 39th street corridor, a little too close to the KU hospital probably for what you're looking for, but the tradeoff is that it's very close to some great restaurants and funky little stores. Just a few blocks away (check out the corner of 37th and Bell for example) there are quieter neighborhoods.

This area doesn't have a specific name that I'm aware of, but every time I go back to Kansas City it has become more residential and more settled. It's a neighborhood that attracts a lot of medical students but they tend to stay on through their residencies and so on. On the Missouri side, there is a nice little neighborhood just up the street from the Plaza and close to Swope Park.

If you tell the real estate agent to show you the "Swope Park" area, you'll see what I mean. It's not very far out, and within a mile or so of good shopping and of two college campuses, several theaters (the movie and the drama kind) and the Unity Church on the Plaza, which hosts a large number of public lectures. Finally, you might also consider the area along Ward Parkway.

This is the most beautiful area of Kansas City in my opinion, with lots of older Victorian houses, and stretching on for a couple of miles. One caution when choosing a neighborhood in Kansas City: be aware that if there are tax consequences to living on one side of state line and working on the other. I don't keep up with what those consequences are, but if you're not retired that's something you'll want to take into consideration.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
