Santam! It took me a little while to find at least some statistic on zero energy construction homes. The reason for not being many statistics for this subject available, I think, is that one can only compare apples with apples and pears with pears.
A zero energy construction home will not only be a total MUST in future, many actual homes will probably have to be converted to almost zero energy homes. The reasons for that are clear, we cannot go on using NON renewable energy as we do at the moment. To compare a normal construction house with a renewable energy construction house requires different thinking and different calculating.
Weighing up the initial cost against the long term savings. This is most difficult to do, but in my own experience, it is worth doing those calculations, build the new zero energy house, sit back and enjoy not paying bills. Which is what happened to us.
We are totally independent of any electricity, water and other suppliers, our only expense is really the service provider for our mobile connections, i.e. Cell phone and internet. Only when you actually experience this peace of mind, you KNOW that back then you've made the right decision to invest the extra money.
Hope, this helps!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
