We lived without any air conditioner/s or central air for many years. All we had were only two very old fans as it was the best we could do at the time. We saved through the years and when we finally could afford it we purchased central air.
Because we lived so long without it, there are no cons. Maybe others have all kinds of cons-but not us. It feels wonderful to have cool dry air in our home and we both think back to all the years we did without,.
Everything is pro.
The pros will install it right, the cons will rip you off.
The "pro" is you can be cool when its hot outside.
Pro's = comfort Con's= expense ... EXPENSIVE TO PURCHASE AND OPPERATE Mrs. Kisses, has the right Idea.
I like all of your answers and a thumb up to each, and Kitepflyer, Thank you, and Bless your Heart!
An a/c does not only controls the temperature in your house but also controls the humity. In addition it also circulates the air and filters particles from the air. In fact, with the instation of ulta violet light in the duct work it will kill bacteria, dust mites, etc that exist in all homes.
However, in addition to the cost of the system & installation, there is the cost of operation. In the South it is a necessity but in the North it is a luxury. If you afford to buy it and operate it, do it.
If the cost is questionable do not do it.
The question of the day should be - heat pump or air conditioning. With todays heat pumps that operate efficiently to near or below freezing. The difference is the air conditioning is a plus with this system since it is already in the package.
Consider your areas weather and SEER ratings as to how much money you will be spending as compared to what your savings will be in utilities. You will use more electric in the winter than currently unless you use electric heat now, and less of the other heating system. Feel free to ask any other questions directly if you like.
When most all people hear "Air Conditioning" they immediately think of something that makes the air colder. Air Conditioning is exactly what the name implies, "conditioning the air". Anything that you add to or take out of the air is Air Conditioning, be it heat, cold, fumes, smells, moisture , dirt, dust, smoke, etc.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
