Cousins. Punk and Grunge were back-to-basics rebellions against what those artists perceived as over-produced grandiosity of the early 70's and late 80's. It is a recurring theme in Rock; the first such rebellion being the "Roots-Rock" movement of 1968-72 that killed off Psychedelia.
I prefer Punk over Grunge. Although, I don't consider any current bands as being real Punk. Everything post-1983 is just poseur re-hash.
Grunge is like punk's nephew if alternative is punk's brother, rock is the parent and blues is the grandparent. There's a good analogy for you.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
