I think it's fine. If anything, it's safer to have homosexuals out in the military than for them to be in the closet due to outdated and inhumane policies. Can you imagine if an enemy were able to obtain some kind of photographic proof of a closeted homosexual in the military engaging in homosexual behavior, how that could negatively effect their entire platoon or squadron?
They could blackmail the closet case into giving up information in return for them not telling on them for being a homosexual. Ancient civilizations encouraged homosexual behavior between soldiers because the sexual connection only served to heighten their loyalty to one another. It made them better fighters, because they weren't only protecting their nation or some untouchable moral standard or ideal, but they were protecting the men standing next to them in combat.
Brought things a bit closer to home, so to speak. There's nothing wrong with homosexuality, and I think most soldiers realize they have more important things to be worrying about than whether or not someone they're fighting with is gay or not. Lives are at stake, and it's ridiculous to keep a capable soldier of fighting just because he prefers the same sex.
Homosexual or not, if you want to serve your country so be it. What's the big deal? There's no difference in abilities, and as far as what if he/she see's me naked?
So? They're not going to do anything to you. It's not a disease and it doesn't rub off.
There is NOTHING wrong with a gays in the military. People love our country then they should be able to fight for it. If you are so concerned with a man or women even staring at you in the showers...then don't stand next to them...I agree with lonlon...just because they may be attracted to the same sex doesn't make every man/woman a stud/babe in their eyes.
The gay men/women I know are extremely picky about what they think is attractive.....Equal rights...end of story.
It is time to start treating gays and lesbians in the same manner as other citizens with the same rights. Obama talked about eliminating "don't ask don't tell" in his campaign, but now he is not following up. This is by no means a national security issue; it is a civil rights issue.
There will come a time when gays and lesbians will marry and serve in the Armed Forces just like heterosexuals.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
