Santa Monica is a great spot for out-of-towners in the Los Angeles area to visit and explore. It's incredibly friendly to people who aren't familiar with the vast expanses of LA's culture, especially since so much of what LA is known for includes Hollywood and the celebrity scene. It offers a much more down-to-earth experience of Southern California without the cheesy tourist scene aspect.
Though LA isn't usually known for its museum circuit or its vast art collections, there are quite a few spots one should check out while visiting the beachside community. My personal and all-time favorite is Bergamot Station, located on 26th Street and Olympic right in the heart of Santa Monica. It's a collection of small galleries that are all independently owned and operated and includes a variety of contemporary, up-and-coming artists as well as some legendary names, depending on what shows are up. But there is always an interesting diversity of works to see and explore.
Plus it's in a great location, has a wonderful little cafe, and a quaint gift shop with one-of-a-kind art items and collectibles. A few other museums in the Santa Monica area worth of a visit include the Getty, which overlooks all of Los Angeles. It's right off the 405 Freeway and has an incredible permanent collection as well as great shows that frequent the museum.
The structure itself is also quite magnificent and its history is a fascinating one as well. The Getty Villa, located just North of Santa Monica on the fringe of Malibu has another great collection of more ancient art and historical works, though you often have to make an appointment in advance to visit. Galleries are also strewn about in Beverly in the posh shopping areas on Santa Monica Blvd.
, and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) located in the heart of downtown is also a fantastic art spot, only a ten minute drive from Santa Monica. All of these places are open to the public and always contain a great selection of works by artists new and old. And though LA isn't as recognized for its art scene as places like New York, it certainly has some creative conceptions worth checking out. Hope that helps you!
Enjoy your visit!
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
