Homosexuality is not "unnatural" Well I suppose that the idea would be to defend homosexuality in a sort of way; a main argument against homosexuals is that it goes "against nature". By demonstrating that it exists in nature quite often combats that argument. The fact that nature did not rid itself of homosexuality in animals suggests that it has some evolutionary significance.
Maybe population control? The negative connotation that religious principles have always attached to it is in part to blame. Nevertheless, the argument that religious institutions often make regarding homosexuality is that it is against a higher power.
Again, the fact that it exists in nature opposes this idea directly. So to answer your question, the point of marking homosexuality in nature is probably to support the embrace of homosexuality among humans from a purely scientific and logic-based standpoint.
The existence of homosexuality in animals, especially the non-primates, proves it can be a naturally ocurring impulse. Basically, homosexual feelings and drives simply can’t be something invented by the mind of Man, since it is not limited to humans, and in fact isn’t even limited to only animals of high intelligence. Homosexual behavior can’t produce offspring but interestingly it also removes some of the competition for mates.
A homosexual male is not competing wth a heterosexual male for females. Among social animals (those living in groups) homosexual members of the group will gather food and will be lookouts and guards which will help the group stay strong (and therefore benefit will the young). So maybe the homosexual members of a population can help support young members even though they don’t breed directly.

Almost every time those sort of questions are asked, the answer is "both." Plus maybe some choice mixed in, if you believe in free will. At the best, it can bring more understanding from a scientific and social standpoint, for better tolerance and the end of prejudice.
The examples of animals can be used to attempt to prove or refute the genetic-basis argument, by way of experimentation and observation that is not possible with humans. The other consideration here, however, is what constitutes homosexuality. Animals and humans are a great deal different.
I mean, when people say that an animal is happy, is that the exact same thing as a person saying they are happy? And that’s just a question of the nature of emotions, which does not even come close to the possible differences in matters of sexuality. Another problem is, I don’t really think that any scientific breakthrough would result in an immediate drastic change.
The people who think it is immoral will still think that, and the same for the people who don’t. There is talk of scientists searching for a "gay gene," something that is passed along genetically that results in a higher likelihood of homosexuality. It would not really make much sense for that to be strict expression (if you have the gene, you are homosexual) in a natural selection sense, because success is defined in terms of producing offspring.
Secondly, environment makes a huge difference in the expression of many genes. If you have a predisposition to cancer, that doesn’t mean you will necessarily get it. Same would go for homosexuality.
Therefore it is impossible for there to be a certain formula. Sources: opinion .
I guess it would be a good example to use to refute the nonsense that it is a choice or a sin - that it is natural behavior in a certain percentage of the animal kingdom, of which man is a part. I heard that bird can be homosexual. I think it is just a genetic trait in animals and people.
