You know, Grandmabx, I wish I knew... Even though a lot of the 'old timers' have left...I've met some wonderful newer people that have signed on. The 'new blood' should bring in lots of new questions and answers...new ideas... OMG, a couple of days ago, I signed on...and I had SIX answers to vote on. Unbelievable, it was like the 'good old days'.
I got so enthused that I was voting 'high' for even 'one liner' answers...LOL I've even tried to 'jump start' the site, by asking simple, 'opinion' questions...like what's your favorite toilet paper...or paper towels. Questions you don't need a 'college degree' to get involved with. They may get one answer, maybe two...and a DB a mile long.
I've tried 'answering' questions...especially the ones asked by newer people. Half the time, mine is the only answer...so ya have to go through the 'appeal' to get a decent vote. At least now, the 'mods', Elves, or whatever they are, are TRYING to make the site more attractive.
The FORUM on the home page has given people a place for 'announcements' like b'days and stuff...there's a place for 'suggestions' on how to improve the site...so they're starting to listen to the people, which is good. Hopefully, they'll get the topics straightened out. We did get our 'spell check' back...YEA!
There WAS s spark of activity in Dec. When they started the 'awards' and they said they will be getting more of them for us to strive for. Possibly, opening up the Askville Store again would revive the interest again.
Make the 'quest gold' have some value to purchase gift cards for Amazon. Maybe a contest or two....design an Askville mug or t-shirt? They really have to come up with some idea that makes people want to give good and valid answers.
Otherwise, what's the point in bothering to ask questions? Once again...this is an excellent question...and it goes unanswered for hours. If we could only figure out 'WHY'.

2 Nothing. Move on. As you spend more time elsewhere, doing other things, you won't miss the site as much.
When you come back and see the tumbleweeds blowing down main street, don't be sad. Remember the good times.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
