Control of Harper's Ferry was essential to the Confederate invasion of Maryland in the Fall of 1862. The 13,000 Federal troops there were surrounded and planned on the evening of September 14th to surrender as they were surrounded and had no hope of reinforcements. After an early morning Confederate artillery barrage the morning of April 115th, the Union commander, Colonel Miles sent a horseman out of Harper's Ferry waving the traditional white flag of surrender.
It all seemed over, however, the Confederates decided to let go one last cannon blast. One of the shells wounded Colonel Miles severely and due to the wound he died the next day. His subordinate officer was left to carry out the last formalities of the 13,000 troop surrender.

A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
