Basically chronic kidney failure can be a consequence of any disease that leads to PROGRESSIVE damage to a person's kidneys, such as hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus or Amyloidosis. It might also be caused by a long lasting obstruction of somebody's urine flow, due to a kidney stone, tumor or enlarged prostate. Another cause has been found to be excessive use of painkiller drugs over several years.

Overall, symptoms of chronic kidney failure seem to develop more gradually than for acute kidney failure and may include nausea, loss of appetite and feeling weak. But unless the kidney damage process can be slowed down or stopped, symptoms of what is called end stage kidney failure may appear which is life threatening.
