I would recommend 15" screen, Intel Core or I series processor. Check out the Vostro line rather than the Inspiron or Studio. It's more of a small business/home business computer but it's built a lot more durably then the conusumer lines.
Costs about the same as the Inspiron Studio. I'm a PC tech and see a lot of abused laptops from college kids. Your brother may take care of it but will his roommates, significant other, their roommates, etc?Stay away from HP/Compaq, horrible overheating issues, or Toshiba, cheaply made.
You'll over pay for a Sony or Lenovo.
The Dell 14Z is lightweight at 4.3 lbs and has a 14 inch screen. The screen is not the biggest but the unit has good multimedia playback ability and is lightweight. It has a Duo processor and comes with Windows7 64bit.549 Recommended retail dell.com/us/en/dfh/notebooks/inspiron-14... I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
