What difficulties would humans face if we moved to another planet?

Asteroids hit Earth every day. Therefore it is true that some asteroids will hit in September (and in October, and in August, and in whatever is left of July and...) A meteor is the streak of light (shooting star) we see when some object (asteroid or smaller "meteoroid") enters the atmosphere. It is the shock wave caused because the air cannot get out of the way fast enough (it is not the asteroid "burning up").

The energy generated by the shock wave will ablate the object, causing it to be reduced to dust. (the individual grains of dust might "burn up" from the friction with the air) If the asteroid was large enough to begin with (usually more than 5 metres = 16 feet), then some part of it could make it to the ground, where they would be called "meteorites". Asteroids large enough to cause extended damage (for example, destroying a town) are very rare.

That would require roughly 100 metres (330 feet). Asteroids large enough to destroy civilization (billions of people) are even rarer. You'd be looking at a kilometre or more in size.

An "extinction" asteroid would have to be 5 km or more. All the larger ones are tracked. http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/risk A list of upcoming "hits" (and mostly near-misses) also exists, but it only extends a few months into the future (simply because the number is so large): http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/ca This list is not complete, as smaller asteroids (100 m or less) are difficult to detect.

They normally don't cause large number of deaths (look up the latest "hit" in Russia, caused by a 20-metre = 65 ft asteroid ) although it would be "major" for you if you happen to be the person affected. Https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chelyabins...

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
