What digital cameras (dSLRs?) allow LONG exposure times (like traditional film cameras) for night photography?

1 Good - I didn't realize that most dSLRs could handle a bulb setting. Do they have a normal cable-release port or do I need a new special type or remote or something like that? .

2 I bought the regular canon cable release, though they also have a wireless one.

My current camera, a Canon Powershot s70, does not allow more than about a 5 second exposure. I use my film camera(s) for 3-5 minute exposures, sometimes even longer, for night photography projects, and would like to do this with a digital. I understand that the shutter times are restricted so that the sensors don't get burned out, but htere must be some digital camera out there that is designed to allow this sort of thing, right?

Get yourself a good cable release (or a wireless release) and set the camera to "bulb" and you are good to go. The big problem is sensor noise, on long exposures. I use a Canon Digital Rebel, and I've taken 30 and 60 second exposures, but never 3-5 minute ones.

I would definitely suggest reading forums like www.dpreview.com, to see people's experience with different cameras for really long exposures.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
