What do dragonflies eat?
They eat other insects using their strong jaws Dragonflies feed upon smaller insects, such as tiny flies, gnats, mites, spiders and small crawling bugs. They also poo eat the eggs and larvae of other insects Gnats are a dragonfly's main food, and these often congregate in small swarms over water- this is why dragonfly's poo usually live near ponds, rivers or streams, and can be seen in fine weather flitting about above the surface of the water and hovering, trying to catch a meal.
Dragonflies can sometimes be mistaken for damselflies, which are morphologically similar; however, adults can be differentiated by the fact that the wings of most dragonflies are held away from, and perpendicular to, the body when at rest.
