People don't realize this because it isn't obvious, and it isn't true. One can only come to that ridiculous conclusion if following the discredited libertarian circular schema, rather than the historically accurate "left/right" axis. And most people (even including a few of the more intelligent libertarians) don't like to run in circles.
Hitler was a right-winger. Period. Anyone who argues otherwise is either ignorant , or a right winger trying to distance themselves from their unpopular political cousin.
And to those who argue that the Nazis had "socialist" in their name, anyone who HONESTLY examines history and world politics knows that the labels are often misleading. In Japan, the "Liberal Democrats" are conservatives. In Russia, the party with that name is fascist.
In Italy, the "Communist Party" are actually moderate conservatives. In Germany, the "Republican Party" is fascist. In the U.S., the Republicans are regular conservatives.
And the British Conservative Party supports social measures that even the most left-wing U.S. Democrat would denounce as "radical left." The labels mean about as much as the laundry detergent names like "Tide" and "Whisk." And in the case of the Nazis, It's EXACTLY like those names.
Socialism was extremely popular in Germany pre-Hitler, and the Nazis were just using sales techniques to hoodwink the people. And it worked. In fact, it worked so well that even today some ignorant (or dishonest) people parrot the Nazi line that they were some kind of "socialists." .
Actually, the socialist movement in Germany that started after WWI split into two groups. The Nazis and the Communists. They both fought each other for the leadership.
The country was ripe for socialism, and both sides knew it. Hitler just got meaner and tougher faster and managed to outwit the communists. He was a national socialist.
This just means he did not believe in Russian style International socialism. He want socialism but he wanted Germany to be the leader of the world. The commies just called him a Fascist as a propaganda ploy.
It was a lie.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
