What killed Heath Ledger was a combination of chemicals. Heath Ledger combined different prescription drugs into his system. By themselves in a persons system they are innocuous, but combined/together they formed some type of poison or allergic reaction.

Certain drugs can not be mixed together for this reason. Depending on the person metabolism it could have and adverse affect. You or I could have taken the same combination of medicine and it might not harm us at all.

Heath Ledger did not know this nor did the doctor or doctors that prescribed the drugs for him. The physicians probably did not know all the drugs he was taken.
