Caroline Wozniacki is somewhat of a rather confusing player to me. When it comes to her she is a player I have never liked nor disliked. I have been always neutral towards her, but I have noticed that many tennis fans and commentators were criticizing her for being a Slamless #1 and also for her game which isn't enjoyable to watch at all.
She became a Top 5 player in late 2009 and she was constantly in the Top 2-4 in 2010. In my opinion she was a solid player before her peak, but lacked big guns/weapons. She could easily get outplayed by big hitters and she couldn't beat the top players as much either.
She got to the US Open final in 2009 by pure luck in my opinion as she wasn't even playing great tennis, but she had really easy opponents to the final. She was then outplayed by Clijsters in the final which was inevitable. Now to get back to her development in 2010.
In mid 2010, after Wimbledon she made some changes in her game. Her serve started to be better(although it still wasn't a weapon) it was stronger and she had a great percentage of 1st serves in. She became more consistent on her shots and more powerful, although she was still primarily a counterpuncher or a "pusher".
Her footwork and motivation were the things that improved the most at that time she became super fast and it was nearly impossible to out run her, she returned everything. The angles that she created were unbelievable and so was her amount of patience and concentration in long rallies. After Wimbledon, she won Copenhagen, Montreal, New Haven, then got the 1st seed at the US Open since Serena withdrew and after that she won the Asian Swing- Tokyo and Beijing and got to the semifinals at the US Open, although I still think she could have won that match against Zvonareva, but it wasn't her day I guess.
She then reached, as you mentioned, the finals of the WTA Championships. So when you make a run like that it obviously means that you are the best player in the world at that moment and she was for a while to be honest. She got lucky though, since she didn't really have any competition to be honest.
Kvitova wasn't a top player, Azarenka was struggling with injuries, the demons in her head and inconsistency, Kim Clijsters wasn't playing enough, Serena got injured, Sharapova was in a big slump, so basically her greatest enemies were Zvonareva and Dementieva and to be honest, they are good tennis players, but very beatable. In 2011, she surprisingly lost early in Sydney and choked in the Semis of the Australian Open to Li Na, but re-grouped fast and played the best tennis of her career in February/March. She easily won Dubai and got to the finals of Doha, losing to Zvonareva again, surprisingly.
But the way that she played in Dubai and Doha was frightening, not only did she return everything, she was also very aggressive! In Indian Wells, she got to another Premier Mandatory title, beating some good players. That was the biggest title of her career and after that everything good in her game went away.
She won Charleston, but like you said she didn't beat anyone noticeable, then she lost twice to Goerges in the clay season, got brutally outplayed by Sharapova in Rome and won Brussels, beating some really un-important players along the way, but you could still sense there was something wrong obviously. After Brussels, everything went downhill(despite her winning Copenhagen and New Haven). She got demolished by Hantuchova in the French, she blew a bi lead versus Cibulkova in Wimbledon, had 2 loses in a row in Toronto and Cincinnati, got demolished by a slow Serena in the US Open.
The Asian swing was even worse as she lost to Kanepi and Pennetta in matches where she had chances to win and didn't make it past the group stages in the YEC. In 2012 her slump continues as she badly choked to Radwanska in Sydney, lost to Kim in AO(though expected) and to Safarova in Doha.
In her number one yrs. She is very consistent with most wins except Grand Slam and fewest lost in a year long. However, she could not sustain the consistency these days because she is in fact a very feminine small frame woman.
Her wt is also gaining, so if she could not outsmart her opponents, she will be having hard times beating them that are all stronger, bigger and more athletic than her.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
