I think he is a human being like the rest of us. He made a mistake,as people the world over do. Plenty of role models have something that doesn't belong in the role model chatagory in their past.
Its unfortunate that it was photograghed and now parents have explaining to do and opinions to come to terms with. Im personally glad it wasnt a worse form of mistake-a harsher drug, drunk driving, etc. Obviously toking up has not affected his ambitions-he is very successful. Aside from it being illegal,i think it is a personal choice similar to drinking, and the individual makes an example of themselves, drug not defining all of who they are.
I still think he is an amazing olympic athlete and the world's greatest swimmer. He made a mistake, has apologized, and it's time to move on. I hope he does well in the meet he'll compete in in May.
Well since all you have to do is say you are sorry,,,,why worry about anything like drugs, booze, guns, dui, etc....when you are caught just say you are sorry,,,,don't want to pay your taxes,,,just say you are sorry,,,,get caught speeding,,,,just say you are sorry.....
He blew it! However if you look at the photo of the bong it doesn't even look like there was any smoke in it? That aside possession is against the law so he should take what he gets.
I don't think it should ruin his life or swimming career but he needs to smarten up! The only person he hurt was himself so learn the lesson and teach others not to be so STUPID!
He was in a forgien country that has no problem with it ,so we need to get a grip and leave it alone people are human or have we forgot that,We had a president that inhaled and cheated on his wife and we now pay big bucks to hear him speak publicy so give Michael a break and quit slamming the dude.
The only mistake here is that he did it in public with the knowledge that everyone has a camera in their phone and he is a public figure. He probably works harder and longer and most Americans ever have especially over the 4 years leading into the Olympics. If he wants to enjoy a smoke he should do it in the privacy of his own house. In my opinion it worse for you and the people around you if you drink to excess.
Either way he apologized for being human and we should leave it at that. Anyone who critizes him should look at themselves first.
I never saw the photo, but everyone is making such a BIG deal about this. Certainly Phelps had to under go drug testing while on the Olympic team so let it go already.
My opinion is Michael Phelps is amazing ahletes. Read this book:Beneath the Surface. The book offers the incredible journey of Michael Phelps from childhood swimming to the 2004 Olympics.
Michael Phelps shares important aspects of his life and is very interesting to see what this kid has overcome to be the best swimer in the world. He talks about his personal accomplishments over such things as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, family difficulties, and his initial stubbornness towards the coaching of Bob Bowman-the man who would "work him" and "work with him" to bring Michael to his full potential.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
