What do you think of polygamy?

Many,Many things I have always believed that whatever consenting adults want to do, as long as they aren't hurting anyone,all fine and good. However in a lot of cases, the women are forced into these marriages, way under the age of consent and living on public assistance while the men live like kings. This is the problem I have with it.

I understand that there is no absolute right way to live your life except for works for you and "Ozzie and Harriet " was never real. The only thing I truly know is, that this life isn't for me.

I think it's fine, but child abuse sucks I didn't see the particular episode of Oprah you were talking about, but most of the time when polygamy makes the news its because of some cult or other in which little girls are raised and married off to older men at the age of 12 or so. Marrying a twelve year old should be (and is) illegal even if she's your first wife. I think of marriage as a legal commitment between people.It's the sort of commitment that makes the two practically one for legal purposes: one can make legal decisions that commit the other and can own goods together.

When it comes time to dissolve it, there are laws determining how to split the property. In many ways, it's like forming a corporation. Looked at that way, polygamy is easy to understand.

The biggest problem with it is that legal lines of control aren't always clear. (Sadly, that's true in many corporations as well, but they usually have voting rules in the charter and marriage licenses don't.) If you're in the hospital, and two spouses differ on the proper treatment, who gets to make the final decision? So for nearly all people, a marriage of precisely two people is the best thing.

For one thing, marriage also usually involves sex (though it doesn't have to) and since 95% of this country is heterosexual, there really isn't room for any more than two people in the marriage. But if you can get past those issues, there are a lot of advantages. It brings more wealth into the family, since more people can work.

It gives you more assistance in raising the children, like a built-in village. There are more people to rely on in a crisis. I think polygamy should be extremely rare and limited like regular marriage to consenting adults.

But for those who choose it, I think it can work very well..

It's sick. I think it sounds like a way for men to have young girls and lots of kids. Who has over 100 wives and keeps them all happy?

That's crazy. Then to say it is part of their religion. It is a form a brainwashing and abuse.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
