What do you think of the *other* personhood amendment?

Missoula is the latest in a string of cities to pass a resolution that corporations are not people. Eugene now has a similar resolution coming before their city council. The call is for a constitutional amendment to revoke person-hood status from corporations.

The People's Republic of Eugene" as it is known in the area has a long history of passing meaningless liberal amendments. It is a waste of taxpayer money but they seem to think things like that are more important than actually passing meaningful legislation. I hope they continue tilting at windmills because it does keep them from doing more damaging things to the citizens.

Nice gestures, but completely meaningless. It's a local response to a national (as in US Supreme Court) idiocy. Until the Supremes turn it around and repair the asinine decision they made (which may be never) this type of activity in Missoula, which may make them feel good, has essentially no effect.

If it's ever to come before the supreme court again, it has to start at grass roots levels because it sure isn't going to be supported by lobby money. So these are the only chance to change anything. I would think there would be a number of them cropping up around the country and that each would have a petition we could sign.

It has to part of the Ows efforts.

I agree. We need bottom up change. Top down has failed.

Works for me. Even if the victory is only symbolic at this point, it works for me. :)Kat .

I think it will be fruitless, but certainly necessary.

If enough communities reject this absurd notion, it may bear fruit. We have to try, don't we? @Goldie 4 months ago .

This sounds lke another swipe at Mitt Romney from the Tea Party. Remember when he made the statement "that corporations are people, too! " They had better enjoy their moment in the sun because the white coats are coming.

What people where during the 26th amendment.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
