I used Dragon NaturallySpeaking ver 8 I believe they are in version 9 now. With version 8, you had to teach it. You couldn't use any old headset. My version came with one, but they also have a list of compatible headsets on their website.
You had to adjust the mouthpiece so that it was always the same distance and orientation to your mouth. And you have to get used to using it. But when those steps were done, it worked uncannily well.
Amazingly well. Really astonishing. As you correct it, it learns your voice better and becomes more accurate. The current version apparently doesn't need training, but works better with it.
And there are so called "array" microphones nowadays so you don't have to wear a headset. It seems to require more than an entry-level computer, as you might expect. The newest version of Windows, Vista, has support for voice recognition built in, but apparently no way for consumers to take advantage of it. Microsoft is leaving that up to third-party software developers..
Not ready for prime time. I got Dragon Naturally Speaking (DNS) (Version 8.0 Preferred) for about $150--against the advice of the salesman at the time! I must say it takes more patience and effort than I have to use it.
I gave up. But if you need it enough to invest the time and effort, I’m sure it’s welcome and a life saver. They are progressing so fast on these things, that they might at any moment come up with something a lot easier to use.
Maybe they already have. Or maybe a lot more money would buy you a better product. The prices of specialty (legal & medical, for instance) editions of this software are very high (some over $1,000)--maybe they are that much better than what I had!

Dragon is by far the best I used Dragon NaturallySpeaking 8 for a while, and was very impressed by its accuracy. Dragon is considered the best speech recognition product on the market. It got almost nothing wrong, and was very fast.
However, I stopped using it a while ago. I found that although speech recognition could get my thoughts down very fast, it wasn’t as natural as a keyboard. This may sound weird, but it’s because I normally think on "paper."
I type and hit backspace and change what I’ve written, and that’s how I formulate my thoughts. Speech recognition software doesn’t lend itself to that kind of work because of the delay and imprecision involved in using it. By imprecision, I mean that you can’t finely edit your document.
With Dragon, you can say "scratch that" and it will erase the last phrase you said. But if I want more precision, I have to say things like "Erase ’I have to say things like. ’" With a keyboard and mouse, it’s a lot faster.
Pros If you’ve already thought out what you’re going to say, it’s fast and accurate It’s really easy and natural to interact with (Dragon supports natural-language requests like "Open Microsoft Excel" and "Delete the last paragraph. ") Using commands makes many things go very fast It’s really fun and cool! Cons It’s expensive!
The basic version of Dragon is $100, and it’s really feature-limited. Choosing a lower-cost alternative like ViaVoice is a bad idea, because it’s not known for good accuracy. There's a $29 "essentials" version, but it's really, really limited in what it can do.
Sometimes typing is still the best (like in my case) Dragon only runs on Windows cables's Recommendations Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 Standard Amazon List Price: $99.99 Used from: $59.18 Average Customer Rating: 3.5 out of 5 (based on 50 reviews) Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 Preferred Speech Recognition Amazon List Price: $199.99 Used from: $77.12 Average Customer Rating: 4.0 out of 5 (based on 86 reviews) Dragon NaturallySpeaking is by far the best line of speech recognition products.
1 Speech recognition is included with Vista, but it really sucks apparently.

2 I bought one of the early versions of Dragon years ago, version 6 I think, and it was pretty bad. I read recently that the big companies like AT&T were putting millions into research into voice recognition some years ago, and suddenly stopped funding it because they found it was much cheaper and cost effective to just hire live people to man phones in places like India. So that may have slowed down the progress of the technology.
We'll still have a more usable version though in probably a decade or two that will do away with a need for a keyboard and mouse...completely. That's probably being optimistic though...

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
